STUDENTS AND FACULTY FROM NINE YOUTHMAPPERS CHAPTERS SELECTED TO SERVE AS RESEARCH FELLOW AND MENTOR TEAMS TO FILL DATA GAPS IN THE WORLD’S OPEN MAP.
Nine students and their faculty advisors from universities with official YouthMappers chapters in good-standing have been selected as 2020 Research Fellowship teams to participate in a research symposium hosted by the Geography Department at The George Washington University in Washington, D.C. The fellows were chosen on the basis of the student’s long-term potential to contribute to their research topic, the merit of the research to advance understanding on resilience of vulnerable populations, and the innovative creation and use of OSM data in the proposed study.
During the ten-day research symposium, fellow-mentor teams will receive capacity training in open mapping techniques and data analysis, professional development, have access to mentoring by international experts and engage in community building with the other research fellowship teams. Research proposal topics relate to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and highlight how open geospatial data can help address global challenges.
